Brief

The course addresses the various ways of photographic expression over the years and the images of reproductions in art. While analysing images from both sides of the camera i.e. in front of the camera and behind the lens, other important photographic aspects like lighting and exposure, speed, framing and angle of view, colour versus black/white would be addressed.

Space making before actually framing it through the camera requires the making of surroundings, building it for a still that make its own story, character and location. Materiality and making of objects will go in stages towards experimenting at a ‘site’ and ‘non-site’ creating a storybook experience with the fake, make believe and real.

Students will develop a visual understanding of certainties related photographs and its making; the merging of found and the built forms in the images that play on a very fine line. An art of relativity – of creating realities for making photographic realities

At the end of the course, students will exhibit their photographic prints and make a photo-book that archives the entire workshop – the making of places and photographs along with the final photographic work.

At the end of the course, student will form one album or a book that compiles all the works of making of the places, and photographs.

Title: The emergent structure of urban space, Bombay.
Simultaneity the reality of the city Vs. Abstraction of planning The aim of the thesis is to understand and explore the phenomenon of simultaneity and its significance in the city of Bombay. To understand the process from duality, to multiplicity and simultaneity; as broadly seen from the planned dual colonial city to the present form of Bombay. This is with a view to understand the evolutionary process through which simple categories based on binary oppositions pass into a schema of increasing complexity; And see how these impinge on the physical construct of the city. The phenomenon of simultaneity is understood as a simultaneous perception of different spatial locations.
